Photographer Stefany Alves has a vintage and raw photography style that we're in love with. The 23 year-old alternates between using digital and film cameras, and has been featured in Elle Girl Korea, Oh Comely, and other publications. She also illustrates and sells tote bags online.
Where are you from?
I was originally born in the south of Brazil but I currently reside in London.
What is your career?
I like to work with anything creative and manual, from Photography to Illustration or any type of craft work.
When did you first start doing photography?
I think I started to dedicate more time to photography when I was 15 years old. It was also when I got my first digital and point-and-shoot cameras.
How would you describe your style?
I believe my style varies accordingly to my mood. Sometimes, it is nostalgic and mysterious.
I try to reach for a bit of perfectionism in presentation.
What equipment do you use?
I use a digital Pentax k100d super as well as Samsung camera for snapshots. Also point-and-shoots and film cameras such as a Vivitar v3000.
Do you prefer film or digital?
I could say I prefer both equally. I think each has its own merits. Digital is surely easier and cheaper to work with. I like to work with both.
What do you hope to be doing 5 years from now?
I really hope to be working with the things I enjoy and creating the most I can. Perhaps, owning my own business too.
What advice do you have for people figuring out their photography style?
I think the key is experimenting with several different themes until you find the one that makes you feel excited about and willing to perfect it.
Who or what inspires you?
Little things can inspire me; the rain on a Sunday afternoon, the sun, films and nature. And surely many artists such as Henri Matisse and Francesca Woodman.
